The idea is to be able to make a time selection across a span of automation and then be able to drag that section of automation straight up or down, with the appropriate automation nodes automatically being created in order to allow the selected area to be changed without affecting adjacent regions.
What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
It would make working with automation faster and less tedious by allowing quick manipulation of sections of automation envelopes without creating four nodes each time.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
Many DAWs have this feature as part of the core sequencer functionality. This also fits with Bitwig’s abstract concepts of efficient entry and editing of data.
Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?
Bitwig allows you to drag line segments up and down, but creating the line segment in the first place, without ramps on either end, requires several precise clicks and is more time consuming than in other DAWs.
Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?
No
Could it be provided by an STV or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?
No
Are there other products that offer this feature?
Yes. In at least Ableton, Logic, and Pro Tools (and likely many other DAWs), you can highlight a section of time and immediately drag that section of automation up or down.
