Trajectory Modulator

A modulator where you can draw a 2D trajectory, animate a position along said spline and output the corresponding x- and y-values.

The mechanism for drawing could be similar to the drawing of automation lines, which allows to click on points to connect them or draw a line freely that then it is smoothed. Lines could be curved as well, just like in automation lines. From here other ideas could be considered, like rotating or scaling the created path with further modulation parameters.

What problem(s) would this feature resolve?

Right now, all XY-Pad type modulators require two inputs from another modulation source to drive them (to place/move the point). This is technical and not particularly intuitive.

How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?

Bitwig makes the complex more intuitive. This is a feature that contributes to the possibilities of modulators, which are an integral part of Bitwig as a product.

Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?

No.

Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?

No.

Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?

No.

Are there other products that offer this feature?

Sculpture in Logic and Max/MSP have similar features.
