Note Out module for The Grid to export information that instruments and other devices can use as input. The Note information expected includes gate, pitch, velocity, release velocity, pressure, timbre, and output channel.
With this feature users could translate all these beautiful generative patches which are possible in the Grid to the beautiful world of instruments (including VST instruments. Instead of being limited to the Grid sounds, it could drive external destinations.
It would also enable all sorts of MIDI mangling which canāt be solved with the existing Note FX devices.
What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
Currently it is easy to create unique and sophisticated Note information in The grid, but it is between difficult and almost impossible to use that information in Bitwig, outside of The Grid.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
It extends the modular Grid beyond audio into the MIDI and controller world.
Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?
There is a Bitwig Preset: Grid Note Out popularized by Polarity Music. Itās a workaround involving using the Replacer device for converting CV/Gate information into notes.
Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig teamās support?
Not natively, only as a preset.
Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?
Canāt make it any more āintegratedā than using Replacer device in place of a module, and thatās a poor solution as pointed out above.
Are there other products that offer this feature?
Other Hosts and standalones, but not as nice and easy as it would be in The Grid. Max/MSP, Pure Data and M4L within Ableton Live.
