Include Control Change (CC) automation data and Program Change (PC) events in MIDI exports. This information is part of the MIDI specification and it could be included in the exported MIDI files to work easily with external hardware.
This request is not about converting each and every automation to CC, since implementing this might be non-trivial. It is about CC automation that was explicitly created as CC automation.
What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
Bitwig MIDI export supports only for note events, not for CC automation and PC events. The lack of this feature complicates the workflow when using Bitwig with external hardware, in particular with hardware sequencers/grooveboxes.
Many of them can import SMF, but for data exchange users have either to record their patterns (with CC data) back and forth, or to use another DAW.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
Bitwig aims to streamline your creative process. It also puts its emphasis on integration between hardware and software. This request is about better and more fluidly controlling hardware with the MIDI data that the software is capable of producing.
Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?
Only recording MIDI back and forth. However, this is very time consuming even for relatively simple projects, so it is not really an option.
Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?
