Make expressions' modulation type selectable

Users should be able to define all expressions in the Expressions modulator as additive or bipolar. This would smooth out the sound design workflow using this modulator.

Other modulators such as the LFO or 4-Stage offer this type of selector.

What problem(s) would this feature resolve?

Currently the expressions in this modulator are tied to their representation in the Detail Editor Panel, and they are either additive (velocity, release velocity, and pressure) or bipolar (timbre). Changing this is only possible using a Math modulator.

How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?

Bitwig puts an emphasis on putting creators in control and in adapting to their workflow. This request would add flexibility to this module following these principles.

Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?

Yes, via the Math modulator it is possible to convert a bipolar signal in additive. You add two Math modulators, one in multiplication mode and one in addition. you target timbre to the first knob of the multiplier and set the second knob to 0.5 - the result goes from -0.5 to +0.5 now. you target that to the add modulator‘s first knob and set the other knob to 0.5. the resulting modulation goes from 0 to 1.

Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?

No.

Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?

No.

Are there other products that offer this feature?

Non applicable really, since modulators are specific to Bitwig.
