What is your approach to adding metadata to your final audio files?

Until now, I haven’t paid any attention to the metadata in my final audio files. I understand that Bitwig’s “Info” tab allows to enter some data that will be inserted as metadata in the exported audio file. Do you use it? Do you use something else to add more i.e. a cover?

I asked on Mastodon, and these are the answers I have go so far:

  • Audacity has a metadata editor and it runs on Linux, Windows, and MacOS.
  • MP3tag looks interesting but it runs on Windows and MacOS only.

Feel free to add more options. This post is wiki-editable.

Added a couple of answers. I guess I can stick to Bitwig’s fields unless I need/want to add an image.

I used MP3tag from like 20 years ago I think, but it is better to fill out meta data in project itself, if it’s available (I don’t remember having this in Ableton or anywhere else really). WAV files do have meta data, but much more limited than MP3’s and some other formats, either way I assume Bitwig will apply what’s possible when rendering.

I run a script after rendering to add cover-art and remaining info (like track number) using ffmpeg.
