How about the steps being numbered in the Steps modulator or in blocks of 4 different colours - maybe only in the expanded view. I am sure this would improve workflow.

as of now, they’re already divided in gradient blocks, where brightest step is the start of the block and darkest is last. if it’s a pattern divisible by 4, then typically you have blocks of 4. if you have 7 steps, then it’s a gradient across all 7 steps, but if you have 14, then you have 2 blocks of 7. hope it makes sense.

Thanks for your reply. I did notice the colour scheme although not how it changes with the number of steps, which is helpful, but perhaps it is just me but I think numbers would be clearer.

true, but also I think it would be of more use if those steps could be addressed to. see this topic Array modulators - #5 by x.iso for reference.
as for just visibility aspect, perhaps it could be made as global parameter in user interface settings
