What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
When mastering, it is typical to use equalization to mimic the frequency spectrum of a reference track. EQ+ gets very close to support the user in doing this, by allowing to use the EQ while seeing the spectrum of both the current track and a reference track in the same window.
Setting the spectrum analyzer’s speed to “freeze” makes the two spectrums easily comparable. However, it looks like there is no fast way in Bitwig to update the spectrum lines after an eq change. The only way to do that seems to be to change the speed to any other option (e.g. “slow”) and then change it back to “freeze”. This is very cumbersome.
Bitwig’s own spectrum analyzer tool “Spectrum” has the same identical issue.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
This would be a natural and convenient way to use EQ+ when mastering, besides, it seems incredibly inexpensive to implement.
Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?
No, to the best of my knowledge.
Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?
No, to the best of my knowledge. I believe there are no keyboard shortcuts specific to one device or VST, nor one can automate the device options available in the inspector panel only, like the spectrum analyzer’s speed.
Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?
No.
