None of these links worked for me, I’ve tried it both signed in and signed out.
weird. I just tried and they do work for me.
Definitely weird. Somehow the links get a “undefined” fixed at the end. So they dont work for me. However, if I delete the undefined then its a valid link.
The first one for example, links to https://bitwish.top/t/simple-transient-sustain-splitting/2917/undefined
for me it links to specific post, might depend on if you visited topic before or not. but even your links works for me, gets to the original post of the topic
The “undefined” string is what anonymous / logged out users get by default. Logged in users will get the number/anchor to the first comment unread based on their reading history.
Still, the link with “undefined” should simply point to the page. Please try with a private window and logged out.
What might happen is that the “undefined” link appears broken when clicking it after having visited the page as logged in user. Looks like something that you can trigger through testing but not really in normal use? Logged in users should get this “undefined” link ever.
Hey @icaria36, thanks for the response! That helped me narrow the issue. Instead of clicking on the link, I’ve been right-clicking on the link to open it a new tab. When opening it in a new tab, whether logged in or logged out, ‘undefined’ at the end of the link fails to load the page.
I’m able to reproduce this consistently by copy pasting this link in a new tab (logged in and logged out)
https://bitwish.top/t/simple-transient-sustain-splitting/2917/undefined
@PMHN As a logged in user, if I right-click the featured links, I don’t get the “undefined” URL but the one corresponding to the last post I had read (see the “16” in the end of the URL at the bottom of the screenshot below).
Can it be that your browser has a cache problem mixing cached information form logged out / logged in information. Does a hard reload help?
@icaria36 As a logged in user I no longer have this issue for the posts that I’ve already viewed. However as a logged out user or a user who has not read the post and thus there is no “last read comment”, I will get the undefined at the end of the link.
The primary issue is not the “undefined” suffix to the link itself, rather the fact that there are two distinct behaviors:
- Clicking on the link directly → No issues, all good.
- Open the link in a new tab or simply opening a new tab and pasting any link with undefined at the end → Page not found error.
Not a big deal at all. We can close this thread, but leave it available for other new users who might have the same issue.
