The addition of a “Density” or “Grains” knob on the Textures mode in the Sampler would expand on its granular abilities. It would enable techniques like grain clouds and automation of the amount of grains.
What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
This is one of the main features missing from the Textures mode to make it a full fledged granulator. Other common granular features, like “jitter”, aren’t displayed on the Sampler, but are possible with Bitwig’s modulators.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
The Sampler already has a granular mode. This feature just makes it more of a complete granulator. Most other common granular features are already possible, especially when loading the Sampler into The Grid.
Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?
Voice Stack does this, but most granulators allow for a higher grain density than voice stacking allows. Also, with voice stacking, you can’t automate the density.
Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?
No
Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?
You can use a granular vst, but the idea is to expand on the built in Sampler.
Are there other products that offer this feature?
Most dedicated granulators do, such as: the Grain Cloud module in Reaktor, Mutable Instruments Clouds, Output Portal, UVI Falcon, or Audio Damage Quanta.
