Copy and Paste Plugin/VST Settings

I’d love if there was a feature where I could copy and paste my plugin/vst’s settings.

What problem(s) would this feature resolve?

It would be nice to have as a way to go back to my original settings if I ended up going too far with my manipulation.

How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?

It would be a copy and paste function at the top of the plugin window.

Is there already an alternative way to achieve this on Bitwig?

Somewhat. You have to copy and then paste the whole entire plugin, including it’s settings, thus creating an extra plugin in the chain. This creates one extra step and slows down the workflow.

Could it be implemented using Bitwig components or APIs, without Bitwig team’s support?

No

Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?

Sure

Are there other products that offer this feature?

Yes, Logic Pro has this ability and also has a “Compare” function which basically does the same thing, allowing the user to go back and forth from the original setting and the modified setting.

Hi @contra, welcome.

First of all, please send your feature requests to support@bitwig if you haven’t done this already. That is the official channel, and this is a community forum run by volunteers.

One suggestion to mitigate the lack of this feature. You could activate a “Macro” modulator (a knob), do all your changes to the plugin while mapping them to the knob. This way you can have the current plugin state, the previous, and all the transition in between, which might be interesting too. Mapping your changes in the plugin can be tedious though. Just in case it helps.

PS: you can vote your own wishes.
