What problem(s) would this feature resolve?
Being able to trigger Preroll with API would allow one to use a controller to create a New Clip and start a pre-roll if playback isn’t started yet to begin recording after the preroll. This could enable live recording or performing features much easier.
How does this feature fit in Bitwig as a product?
Very easily one would think.

Not really, one could work around it, but not implement it, and working around it takes away from live performance
Could it be provided by a VST or something else reasonably integrated with Bitwig?
